Sensing & Perception

Through sensing and perception, autonomous systems obtain information of the environment, achieve situation awareness, and use that for several purposes such as navigation, control, or interaction with other agents. The specialization focuses on approaches to obtain information of the own condition and to observe and understand the environment and other agents (people and systems) acting there. It provides knowledge of the design and implementation of appropriate sensor technology like wireless locating technologies as GPS, or camera, radar, ultrasound or lidar sensors as they are use in modern vehicles today. However, sensing, perception and scene understanding also requires suitable signal processing algorithms and machine learning techniques for the analysis and interpretation of the acquired data.
